Can God Hate?

Can God hate something? I’m been reading dusty old volumes from past and present masters on the topic of God, who He is, what He is like, and what He is about. My reading list can be found at the end of this post if you are interested. I’ve also been paying close attention as I read the Bible so I can capture notes when I encounter revelations of God’s character and actions. Not surprisingly my collection of notes is growing larger by the week as I pore over the love letter God has placed in my hands. He wants me to know Him, and I am amazed at how much God has revealed about Himself yet how little I know about Him beyond the big L and the big O’s – love, omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent.

Seven Nasties

For much of the last month I have been hovering over Proverbs 6:16-19 after a sermon I listened to stirred my heart. (Thanks, Chip Ingram!) God actually tells me of some things He hates, and the deeper I drilled the more convinced I became that I cannot check the boxes for my life as being free from those Seven Nasties as I’ve taken to calling them. I found nuances of many of them in my thought life, my words, and even in my actions. Ouch.

I shared my gleanings from this study in for God Hates The Seven Nasties. The main lesson I’ve taken away is that my relationship with God can only grow deeper as I learn about Him, and as I adjust my life to His expectations. The Seven Nasties have to go!

  • God is Responsive

God is responsive to us. Are we responsive to God? Each of us must choose his God. It’s a personal decision and certainly one of grave importance. Some opt to “wait and see,” but that in itself is a choice. Others choose to mix a bit of this with a dash of that to create…

  • Experience God Unfiltered

We’re going to dissect two examples from Scripture portraying people who came face-to-face with the possibility of having a relationship with God. How did each handle the opportunity? The first group, Israel gathered at the base of Mount Sinai, opted for a filtered experience. The second, the believers in Berea, refused to outsource their spiritual…
