Children love stories. Stories are one of the easiest tools we can use in teaching faith and morality. Sharing our faith with the next generation is a vital responsibility for parents and grandparents. In the Story Corner I’m collecting the stories I’m writing so I can share them. I’ve included both PDFs and MP3 files, and hope one day to corral this work in book form.

God’s Three Trees

This is a story I have loved since I was a child. It is a traditional folk tale with many variations depending on where you grew up and who told the story. In our family celebration, after the tree is up, all the house lights are turned off and a couple of candles are lit. We gather around the tree and read this story as we think about our brightly shining tree and the truth that Christmas is all about the cross of Calvary. Jesus, the Greatest Gift ever given, came to be our Savior.

The Night Before Christmas Project

Watching our children grow up is challenging but having them loose interest in the family holiday traditions is harder. One option is to involve them in creating their own version of the traditions. In this case (Christmas 1998) I read The Night Before Christmas but gave my daughters, Amanda – 14 and Michelle – 10, the challenge to insert appropriate sound effects. You can enjoy their interpretation. This project idea can be used throughout the year and grandparents, uncles, and aunts will enjoy the result.
