Shawn and I were idling on the couch when the mood struck and we raced off to make magic happen. Sometimes, we know we have a winner of a project idea. The glimmer of brilliance centered on my office and small changes we could make to optimize the space for writing. The plan involved moving a 400 pound lateral file, but with patience and a little sweat, we rocked it into the new position. I also moved a 7’ bookcase, fully loaded, using the same technique. I’m glad I’ve been doing Shawn’s girlie workout with her.
In the shop the next day, I Kreg-jigged up a storm to create this bookcase. The wood is pine utility shelving I harvested from Lowes. Cuts were simple, and assembly was a snap with the pocket screw system. I primed the wood and applied 2 coats of Sherwin-Williams Soft Whisper (satin).
Empty book shelves represent opportunity and potential. I can buy good books to fill those shelves in 2014. I can increase my knowledge or entertain myself. I can develop my walk with God as I fill my heart with the right stuff. I can learn to be a better husband and friend. The possibilities are endless.
I use my Kindle all the time, but there’s no substitute for holding a book and turning pages. It’s time to read.
Happy New Year!
