Anytime I can absorb knowledge, techniques, or short-cuts by simply paying attention, I would be foolish to skip school. I need to hang around with and learn from smart people. I recently talked with one who lives by retail sales. This expert commented that selling to ladies can be challenging and she shared a secret, “Start with the shoes.” Complement the lady on her shoes, her watch, her necklace, or the color and style of her hair. The sales expert and the prospective customer become friends as the ice melts away. Their transaction is pleasant and both feel their time together was more than a simple purchase. A relationship is begun and hopefully the bond is strong enough to trigger repeat sales.
The wisest man who ever lived, Solomon, wrote a steamy piece called the Song of Solomon. The short work describes love and marriage in terms we can all understand. The love is pure and undefiled, just the way God intended marriage to be. The marriage experience brought pleasure to the man and his wife. I’m not going into detail. You can read the book for yourself if you are curious.
At the start of chapter 7, Solomon describes his bride. And he starts with her shoes!
“How beautiful are your feet in sandals, O prince’s daughter!”
Song of Solomon 7:1.
