The pieces have joined on my latest writing project, Quest for the Perfect Wife, released December 20, 2016. The book began as a germ of an idea and a few scribbled notes more than two years ago, and in recent months a team of people stepped in to add the bells and whistles to finish the work.
My editor put in late nights with her red pen and asked good questions. The First Readers group took the finished manuscript, digested the work, and offered suggestions for improvement. And my graphics designer created another masterpiece for the cover. An author’s collection of words cannot morph into a book without the special people who shape the final product. Thank you to all who joined me on this journey.
How am I qualified to write a book on marriage? My degree is in engineering not divinity or counseling. My formal preparation for marriage consisted of paying attention in church as various speakers expounded on the Bible passages on love and marriage. I consulted books by experts who explained marriage, but for the most part I learned to be a husband the same way I learned to swim. I was chucked into a lake where I scrambled to master new skills. And that learning continues as Shawn and I navigate year thirty-six of our marriage.
An engineer analyzes systems to learn how they work. With that knowledge he may then tinker with the system to coax it to a more efficient operating level. No one can improve on the concept of marriage, though. God designed marriage so that Adam and Eve could take their togetherness to a whole new level.
God not only designed marriage He included many examples of how it works in His best-seller, the Bible. In Quest for the Perfect Wife I use ten of those examples as the starting point for my investigation into how a man finds or builds a perfect wife. My purpose is to share the results of the study in a short and easy-to-read format that might appeal to men, many of whom are not readers. You can be the judge on whether or not I hit the target.
Men, what if there are behaviors we can adopt that will strengthen our marriages and help our wives be all they can be? What if simple acts on our part will create the positive and supportive environment that allows our ladies to blossom? Would that knowledge be valuable? A common thread of wisdom runs through the Bible passages discussed in Quest for the Perfect Wife. Quite often a lady’s response is directly affected by the way her husband views and treats her.
